Why do Haitians Still Use Saints In Haitian Vodou?

A young white lady asked me if I felt the use of saint images in Haitian Vodou is a "watering down" of the Vodou religion. She asked me from what I felt was a honest place of respect, so I will reply in the same manor.

I made a video once called "Vodou from another era." O, my loves. we are going way back to 1804. A white man on youtube had come at me from a place of disrespect and stated that the revolutionary war in Haiti was a just a "FLUKE" and that Vodou played no part. This trash had the nerve to say the slaves just "out numbered" the French. To understand HAITIAN Vodou you must know the truth my loves. The battle started 13 years before 1804. The slaves fought for 13 years. They fought the well armed French, Spanish, and English. The slaves were lead by Toussaint Louverture. A slave who taught himself how to read and write not only French, but Latin. He knew the only way to not be enslaved was to not let Haiti be occupied by anyone other then Haitians. You have to understand the planning and strategy that he had to employ. Remember at this time a Black man was considered 1/3 of a man in the USA, by the Constitution. So a victory over these White armies was and still is something that the White mind can not accept. And now I will tell you how we used Haitian Vodou to free ourselves. Before a battle the leaders would call the lwa and the men would fight while powered up and possessed by the spirits. I have no doubt the lwa guided and directed the leaders. You see slaves in the USA took hold to the White mans religion and the Bible he corrupted. They slaves in America believed it was "Gods will" and that they would get a reward in heaven. They prayed to Jesus to free them and did not wonder why their prays were not heard. The Bible had the lwa , our angels removed. They scared the White man. So much he made a law to forbid the beating of the drum. He did not want slaves to call the lwa. For good reason. The lwa , Vodou , freed Haitians from the French. The White man will never give Toussaint Louverture the credit that is due. This is because he got what he deserved and is still mad about. Now, the power was in Haiti. The lwa can from Africa to Haiti and adopted Haiti as their own. I use coins from this time period. Haitian coins. I use saints on my altar from this time period. As the coins and saints make the lwa react as in this era of great power. I use saints not because I am brain washed or whatever reason someone may think. Saints go with Haitian Vodou. It is OUTSIDERS not saints on the altar that are watering down Haitian Vodou. Never forget 1804! Ayibobo!
